Intro
Are you ready to explore robotics as a practical tool for teaching science, mathematics, and technology?
“Robotics and STEM in schools” introduces educators to educational robotics and programming and explores how these technologies can be integrated into STEM teaching.
The course covers a range of topics and activities, including LEGO Mindstorms/LEGO SPIKE, basic programming, and guided discovery. Participants will develop their technical skills while exploring ways to apply robotics and programming in their own teaching contexts.
Who is this for?
This course is designed for education, cultural, and youth professionals of all levels, including teachers, school leaders, counsellors, mentors, camp leaders, extracurricular activity coordinators, and other professionals who want to explore the use of robotics and technology in education.
No prior experience in robotics or coding is required. Participants are encouraged to bring their curiosity and willingness to explore new technologies. The course provides an international learning experience, bringing together professionals from across Europe through Erasmus+ mobility.
Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Design STEM activities: Develop STEM activities that incorporate educational robotics and support active learning.
- Work with robotics kits: Gain practical experience with LEGO Mindstorms and basic programming using tools such as LabVIEW.
- Apply active learning approaches: Use robotics-based activities to encourage experimentation, problem-solving, and guided discovery.
- Develop problem-solving skills: Use robotics challenges to support students’ mathematical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving.
- Integrate robotics into learning: Identify practical ways to incorporate robotics and technology into existing STEM activities and curricula.
- Share and reflect on practice: Exchange ideas and experiences with other educators and consider different approaches to using robotics in education.
Modules
- Module 1: Educational robotics foundations. Learn about the role of robotics and new technologies in education and their connection to STEM learning.
- Module 2: Robotics as a teaching tool. Use robotics activities to encourage guided discovery, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Module 3: Hands-on robotics practice. Work with LEGO Mindstorms building kits and practice basic programming.
- Module 4: Designing STEM lessons. Consider how robotics can be incorporated into STEM activities and adapted to different classroom contexts.
- Module 5: Active learning with robotics.Use active learning approaches to engage students in practical robotics activities and collaborative problem-solving.
- Module 6: Robotics in education. Discuss current approaches to educational robotics and share ideas and experiences with other educators.

Destination:
Corfu is a beautiful green island, which enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate. Corfu is a very popular tourist destination. Up until the early 20th century, it was mainly visited by the European royals and elites. It is still popular with the global elite. The island’s history is laden with battles and conquests. Corfu was long controlled by Venice and repulsed several Turkish sieges, before falling under British rule following the Napoleonic Wars. Corfu was eventually ceded by the British Empire along with the remaining islands of the United States of the Ionian Islands, and unification with modern Greece was concluded in 1864 under the Treaty of London. Corfu is renowned for its long tradition and rich culture which is unlike any other Greek island. In 2007, the city’s old city was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you will also discover a compact world of beautiful beaches and stunning mountain peaks, ancient ruins and picturesque villages. There is something for everyone on the island, whether you prefer peace and quiet or a lively cosmopolitan destination.
